What 黿 means
It is an animal word, not an emotional signal. Early dictionaries define it as the larger form of 鱉, analyzed as 黽 with 元 for sound. A late-Shang bronze turtle, 作册般黿, records a king hunting one at the 洹 River and awarding the object as a treasure. The graph names an animal in a hunting-and-gift record, not a standalone lucky emblem.
To produce the exact form, type yuan in traditional mode and select 黿. Cangjie uses MMUU; simplified mode gives 鼋. Fonts may draw regional Han glyph shapes differently without changing the character.
Why did someone send 黿?
Usually, it is literal or literary. Chinese texts move from the animal itself to framed images: verse uses a white 黿, a court story serves one at a ruler's table, and later legend pairs it with 鼉. In a few classical passages, 黿 also stands for 蚖, a lizard. Japanese gives the graph a separate reading, あおうみがめ. Neighboring words decide the reading.
Formal, literary, or specialist; in everyday chat, many readers need surrounding words.
If you mean the ordinary soft-shelled turtle, use 鱉/鳖; 黿 is the larger, rarer name.
