What 鿄 means
It is another written form of 梁 with the same meanings.
梁 can mean a bridge, a structural beam or rafter, or a surname. 鿄 uses 刃 in place of the more elaborate upper-right part of 梁, but it is recorded as a variant of the same character.
A Ming-period Chinese dictionary, 直音篇, records 鿄 as a 俗字—an informal written variant—of 梁. That is a surviving record, not a date for when the form began.
Why does 鿄 appear in Japanese building work?
A Japanese builder documented it as shorthand for “beam” in 2020.
The builder's account uses 鿄 for はり, the Japanese word for a structural beam, and says colleagues recognized the form. It documents one professional use, not a general rule for Japanese writing.
Neutral in tone; preserve it when a source uses this exact written form.
In quotations and names, do not silently substitute 梁 for 鿄.
