What ᫁ means
It weakens a pronunciation mark above a letter at the sound's start. ExtIPA extends the International Phonetic Alphabet to describe disordered speech. A 1997 chart shows parentheses for partial voicing or devoicing. The International Clinical Phonetics and Linguistics Association reviewed extIPA in 2010; members approved revisions in 2016. Unicode encoded these separate edge marks in 2021.
In stored text, ᫁ follows its target diacritic, though it renders at that mark's left edge.

Questions people ask
1Why does ᫁ show as a box on some devices?
It is recent: Unicode added it in version 14.0 (2021), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
