What ϯ means
It marks spelling, not a standalone word. In Sahidic, ⲧⲓ may appear separately; ϯ is the usual single-character form.
The Coptic alphabet adapted Greek letters to write Egyptian, adding Demotic signs from an older Egyptian script. Early forms used more Demotic signs. The standard alphabet was established by the fourth century AD. Sahidic became a literary dialect; the Bohairic dialect served the church.
