What ⲿ means
ⲿ is the Old Coptic Oou letter used to write Egyptian.
Old Coptic writing had developed by the 1st century CE at latest as a family of related scripts.
Greek letters supplied the main alphabet; signs from Demotic, an older Egyptian script, covered sounds Greek letters did not. Later standardized Coptic used a narrower set, placing ⲿ in the earlier spelling tradition.
