What ҂ means
It multiplies a numeral letter’s value by 1,000. In ҂а҃, а is one; ҃ marks it as a number, so the total is 1,000.
Formed in Bulgaria in the 10th century from Greek alphabetic numerals, it spread through Church Slavonic into East Slavic writing. Bulgarian ruler Samuil’s 993 tomb inscription is early evidence. Russian non-Church printing adopted Arabic digits in 1710.
Historical notation.
Alone, ҂ has no value; it scales a numeral letter.
