What 𑥒 means
It writes the number two in Dives Akuru. This script was used to write Dhivehi, the language of the Maldives.
The Maldives’ earliest surviving inscription is a coral-stone block from Landū dated to the 6th–8th centuries, but its text is in an older South Asian script called Grantha. Distinctive Divehi writing appears on two statues from Malé dated to the 9th–10th centuries. A consistent written record begins in the 12th century with lōmāfānu, copper-plate grants; the numerals are attested in this record.
Dives Akuru descends from Brahmi, an early South Asian script, through Grantha, and is closest to medieval Sinhala script. Its forms changed over time: by the 16th century, decrees on paper and wooden boards had replaced copper-plate grants. Thaana, the later script used for Dhivehi, began appearing alongside Dives Akuru in the early 18th century and had replaced it in regular writing by the turn of the 19th century. Dives Akuru 𑥒 provided the model for Thaana ފ, called fāf; in Thaana it is a letter, not a numeral.
