What ₯ means
The earliest documentation for this design is a 1999 proposal. The Greek national standards body proposed ₯ for banking, administration, and general use, especially during the transition when drachmas and euros would circulate together. Its submission said the sign was already used in Greece but included no published examples.
The proposal described a stylized capital delta with a small rho, but treated ₯ as one currency character rather than the Greek letter sequence Δρ. The drachma itself is much older: ancient Greek coins used the denomination, and the modern Greek state later restored the currency. That history does not show this exact glyph on ancient coins.
What does ₯ mean in a message?
It points to the former Greek currency or a hypothetical return to it. Euro cash entered Greece on 1 January 2002; drachma cash remained legal tender through 28 February. A report dated 17 August 2002 described Greek consumers mentally converting everyday prices into drachmas while using euros. That nostalgia concerns the currency, not evidence that they used ₯.

No. This character is not established as a current Greek price convention; it fits a clearly historical or hypothetical reference better.
