What ₭ means
It marks an amount in kip, Laos's currency.
For local prices, ₭ stands by the amount; banks and exchanges use LAK, the same currency's three-letter code. Under a foreign-exchange law effective July 2022, domestic prices, payments and receipts must use kip, the Lao central bank says.
A 2007 study traces political shifts in Lao banknote imagery, from monarchy through socialist revolution to the post-reform era.
