What 𛲒 means
Its French reading depends on what comes before it.
Duployan is a quick-writing shorthand. After a word root, this sign stands for -ion; after a numeral, it marks millions. A suffix is an ending added to a root.
Émile Duployé published his quick-writing system for French in 1860. Missionary Jean-Marie-Raphaël Le Jeune adapted it for Chinook Jargon and Salish languages in British Columbia. Indigenous learners used it for lessons and religious texts; the Kamloops Wawa newspaper printed it from 1891–1923. Chinuk Pipa did not use French affixes.
