What 𛰓 means
It marks a voiced sound: your vocal cords vibrate. English “this” begins with it; “thin” begins with the unvoiced partner, written with 𛰑 TH.
The French cleric Émile Duployé published his shorthand in 1860 to write down speech quickly. In 1890, missionary Jean-Marie-Raphaël Le Jeune adapted it as Chinook Pipa for Chinook Jargon and other Indigenous languages of interior British Columbia. His account credits Indigenous learner Charlie Alexis Mayous with learning the script and teaching others. The Kamloops Wawa periodical began publishing it in 1891.

1Why does 𛰓 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Duployan block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
