What 𛲝 means
It marks an added r by thickening the letter before it.
Place it after the Duployan letter it changes. The selector is invisible on its own; the Unicode character chart's dotted circle marks its attachment point.
Émile Duployé published his French shorthand in 1860. Sloan's English adaptation appeared in 1882 and used thick strokes for r. In interior British Columbia, Jean-Marie Le Jeune adapted Duployan as Chinuk pipa for a Catholic mission literacy program, writing Chinook Jargon, a regional trade language, and local Indigenous languages; Indigenous teachers helped spread it. This selector encodes Sloan's convention.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𛲝 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Duployan block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
