What ⧲ means
It represents a range of uncertainty around a value. The circle supplies the marker; the line extends above and below it, with short horizontal strokes at its ends. In a graph, error bars can show measurement uncertainty, variation in data or a confidence interval—a range calculated to express statistical uncertainty.
The drawing alone does not specify which kind of range is intended or how large it is. Read the graph’s caption or key for that information. The fixed text character is a representation of this design, not a numerical measurement or a command to perform an operation.
This character appeared with square and diamond counterparts in a 1999 Unicode proposal from STIX, a project to improve the exchange and display of scientific publications across digital systems.
A technical scientific symbol for an error-bar design.
An error bar expresses uncertainty or variation, not necessarily a mistake.

1Why does ⧲ show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Miscellaneous Mathematical Symbols-B block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
