What ⧮ means
A measured value plotted with its uncertainty range. On a chart of experimental results, each point is drawn as a small marker, and a line through it runs from the lowest to the highest plausible value; the short caps at the ends are the error bars. The longer the bars, the less precise the measurement.
Hollow and filled squares, diamonds and circles tell different data series apart, so the set has six members. In text, ⧮ lets a caption say which marker belongs to which series without an image. The set reached Unicode through a 2000 proposal from the STIX project, a joint effort of scientific publishers to build fonts covering mathematical and technical notation.

Questions people ask
1Is ⧮ a sign for an error or warning?
No. Here 'error' means measurement uncertainty, as in statistics, not a computer error. The symbol shows a data point and its range of uncertainty.
