What ፼ means
It marks ten thousand in Ethiopic number writing.
The earliest known Ethiopic numeral inscription is on the Anza stela, an inscribed stone monument; its text records a quantity of bread.
The Ethiopic script grew from a South Arabian model; its numeral signs draw on Greek forms, perhaps by way of Coptic, an Egyptian writing system built mainly from Greek letters.
Formal or historical Ethiopic notation; European digits are often used in modern writing.
For everyday amounts, 10,000 is clearer if the reader may not know Ethiopic numerals.
