What ቍ means
ቍ is a syllable used to write words. Ethiopic writing groups a consonant and vowel into one syllabic character. In the QW series, W marks a labialized form: the consonant has a w-like lip rounding. “QWE” is a Unicode chart label, not a universal pronunciation guide. A lone ቍ gives little context; read it in its word and language.
The Ethiopic script grew from Old South Arabian, a consonant-only script used in and around the Arabian Peninsula. That script reached the Horn of Africa near the end of the first millennium BCE and was adapted to write Geʽez, a language still used in worship. The Ethiopic form appears in inscriptions from the second or third centuries CE; by the fourth century CE, its vowel system had developed. Over time it became a left-to-right syllabary, and the script was adopted for Amharic, Tigrinya, Tigre, Oromo, and other languages.
How do I type ቍ?
Use an Ethiopic keyboard layout; its keystrokes depend on the layout. Ethiopic keyboards can build syllables from smaller consonant-and-vowel inputs. The Keyman Modern Geʾez table maps ቍ to quu; other layouts may use another sequence. That is a keyboard mapping, not a pronunciation.
A font draws this text character. If it appears as a box, the active font lacks Ethiopic coverage; different fonts can also draw its outline differently.
Ordinary syllabic text; its conversational tone comes from the surrounding word and message.
A lone ቍ may be a fragment; the syllable itself does not signal a reaction.
