What ዤ means
It writes one consonant and vowel as a syllable.
Writing from South Arabia reached the Horn around the 8th century BCE and developed locally into Ethiopic writing. Inscriptions from Aksum, an ancient kingdom there, preserve Ge'ez in South Arabian and early Ethiopic writing without vowel marks.
Around the 4th century CE, vowel marks let one consonant appear with different vowels as a family of syllables. Amharic and related Ethiopic languages use overlapping selections; ዤ pairs the ዠ family's consonant with e.
