What 🇦🇹 means
It stands for Austria.
Beside Vienna plans, an Austrian friend, schnitzel, the Alps or ski talk, it tags that part of the message as Austrian: the destination, the roots, or the team being backed.
Why is my flag just letters?
Windows shows the code letters instead.
The emoji is two regional indicator letters, A and T, that phones and Macs draw as a flag. As of 2026, the Windows emoji font has no country-flag artwork, so it shows AT. The message itself is intact.
Neutral and literal; it marks place, Austrian roots, or team loyalty.
Dark red plus thin white stripe means Latvia, not Austria.

1Worth knowing
- The characters behind 🇦🇹 existed in Unicode 5 years before anyone was allowed to draw them in colour: Unicode 6.0 in 2010, emoji presentation in 2015.
- 🇦🇹 is not one character. It is 2 of them glued together, which is why deleting it sometimes takes two presses of backspace and why it breaks character counters.
