Musical Score

🎼 is the sheet music emoji, a musical score in miniature: a staff, clef and notes on a page. It stands for written music, so it fits composing, practice, lessons, choir and rehearsal. For simply listening to a song, 🎵 or 🎶 reads more naturally.

What 🎼 means

From medieval church chant marks. Modern Western staff notation grew from ninth-century neumes, small marks written above chant words to remind singers how a melody moved. In the 11th century the Italian monk Guido of Arezzo helped systematize and spread staff lines, so a note's height on the page fixed its pitch; clefs say which line is which note. By the early 18th century, a “score” meant all parts of a work written out together.
