What 𝅘𝅥𝅮 means
It is one eighth of a whole note’s written value.
Rhythmic notation took shape in Paris in the 13th century as polyphonic music (several melodies sounding together) grew more complex. Mensural notation, where note shapes indicated duration, added shorter values; by the late 15th century it included the fusa, a predecessor of today’s eighth note. Earlier values could split by two or three; modern note values halve in a fixed sequence.
As text, 𝅘𝅥𝅮 carries duration but no pitch or staff placement; Unicode allows either stem direction inline.
