What 🇭🇳 means
Honduras, being Honduran, or cheering for Honduras. In a profile or username it says where someone is from or where their family is from. Honduras has a large diaspora, above all in the United States and Spain, so the flag often sits beside or to say "two homes". Hondurans call themselves catrachos, and the flag turns up next to that word, or next to "La H", the nickname of the national football team, whenever World Cup qualifiers or Gold Cup matches are on. Around 15 September, the Independence Day Honduras shares with Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, it is everywhere. After a hurricane or flood it carries solidarity, usually with .
Read it as warmth. A Honduran friend sending it is proud, not making a political point, and the flag belongs to no party. A non-Honduran sending it is usually saying "thinking of you and your country", which is exactly how it is received.
What is on the flag of Honduras?
Blue, white, blue, with five stars for Central America. The two blue bands are the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean that bound the country; the white band is the land between them and peace. The five stars, set in an X in the white band, are Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, the five states of the Federal Republic of Central America (1823–1841), and the wish that they might one day reunite. The design dates from 1866, when the stars were added to the federation's old blue-white-blue.
In 2022 Honduras passed a law restoring the flag's original deep "turquí" blue after decades of a lighter turquoise. Emoji artwork differs by device, so as of 2026 you may see either shade. At emoji size the stars are tiny, which makes 🇭🇳 easy to mix up with and , two neighbours with the same stripes and a coat of arms in the middle instead.
Warm and proud; the tone follows the words around it, from match-day shouting to quiet solidarity after a disaster.
