What O means
It aligns Latin letters with Japanese text grids. Kana (syllabic signs) and kanji (word characters) fill square cells; fullwidth O fills one too. Japanese calls this width zenkaku, meaning fullwidth. Japan's JIS C 6226, established in 1978 and later known as JIS X 0208, included fullwidth forms in a two-byte character set, encoding each character in two bytes. Unicode kept both widths for older text. Chinese and Korean systems use the same convention.
Neutral in layout; stylized in captions.
A login can reject it where the standard-width O is expected.

1Why does O show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
