What 𐵮 means

It marks a word split at the end of a Garay line. Garay was created in Senegal by Assane Faye to write Wolof; it first appeared in print in January 1961.

Its design draws on Arabic and Latin writing, and its right-to-left direction reflects Arabic influence. By 2024, documented uses included textbooks, folktales, maps, a Qur’an translation and Mandinka literacy work. Wolofal is another way to write Wolof, using Arabic script.
