Hangul syllable Bbeob

4834/11172

Use Korean 2-set input and enter ㅃ, ㅓ, then ㅂ; the input method combines them into one syllable block. By itself, 뻡 represents a Korean syllable sound, not a standalone word meaning; dictionaries use it in pronunciation guides, such as for 용법. One displayed block brings together three letter components.

What 뻡 means

Use Korean 2-set input: ㅃ, ㅓ, then ㅂ. A Korean input method combines an initial consonant, a vowel, and a final consonant into one syllable block. The Latin search spellings ppeop, ppeob, and beop are not the keystrokes.

Some tools accept conjoining Korean Jamo, or letter components: ᄈ ᅥ ᆸ. Unicode normalization, which standardizes text, treats this sequence as equivalent to the single block.

What does 뻡 mean?

By itself, it has a syllable sound, not a standalone word meaning. Korean dictionaries show 용법 as [용ː뻡] and 맞춤법 as [맏춤뻡] in pronunciation guides. The brackets show how each whole word is spoken; 뻡 is not a separate word there.

The history belongs to Hangul, the Korean writing system, rather than to this individual block. The earliest record of Hunminjeongeum, the system’s original name, appears in a 1443 entry of the Sejong Shilok, a royal chronicle; an explanatory book followed in 1446. The system was designed to fit Korean speech and widen access to writing. Reforms in 1894 changed its public status; it was suppressed during Japanese colonial rule, then restored as a national cultural foundation after independence in 1945.

Is 뻡 related to Phags-pa?

Some scholars argue it may have influenced Hangul’s design. The Phags-pa script was created from Tibetan for the Yuan state in 1265 and promulgated in 1269. The proposed connection is that the script reached Korea and may have been consulted during the creation of Hunminjeongeum. This is a debated influence on the writing system, not a claim that a specific Phags-pa character became 뻡.

In Korean text, it signals a syllable in spelling or pronunciation; by itself, it has no standalone word meaning.

Is 뻡 an emoji?

No. 뻡 is a Hangul text syllable; its reading depends on the Korean word or pronunciation guide where it appears.

Why does 뻡 look different in fonts?

Hangul fonts can draw the same syllable block with different stroke details and spacing; a visual change alone does not make it a different text character.
