Hangul syllable cha

차 can mean tea, a vehicle, a difference or a numbered round in Korean. The sentence tells you which; alone, it stays ambiguous.

Text symbol

What 차 means

A whole word, but context picks which. Korean uses 차 for tea, a car, a difference or a numbered round. Sent alone, ask which meaning the sender intends.

Why was Hangul created?

To give Korean an easy-to-learn alphabet. Before Hangul, Koreans adapted Chinese characters to write Korean through systems such as Idu, Gugyeol and Hyangchal. King Sejong created Hangul, first called Hunminjeongeum, in 1443; a book of the same name explained its purpose and design in 1446. 차 joins ㅊ and ㅏ; those dates belong to the script, not each word.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 차 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
