hangul syllable cweog

Hangul Syllable Cweog

8626/11172

춱 is a Hangul block that spells one Korean syllable from three jamo, or letter components. It does not carry a fixed message on its own: read the Korean word and sentence around it. Unicode’s label “cweog” names those parts rather than translating a Korean word.

Text symbol

What 춱 means

It represents one Korean syllable, not a fixed message. Is 춱 a Korean word? It is a syllable block; whether it forms a complete word depends on the Korean text around it. The block is built from three jamo, or Korean letter components: initial ᄎ, middle vowel ᅯ, and final consonant ᆨ. Unicode’s label “cweog” names those parts; it is not a translation of a Korean word.

If 춱 arrives alone, you can identify the syllable, but not the sender’s intended word or message.

Hangul was built to write Korean speech

King Sejong of Joseon created Hangul in 1443 to write Korean speech. The explanatory book Hunminjeongeum, published in 1446, describes the sounds and shows how letters fit initial, middle, and final positions inside a syllable block. 춱 follows that system.

The script’s original name, Hunminjeongeum, is also the title of its explanatory book. The name Hangeul appears in records from the early 1910s and was widely used by 1928. Modern Korean spelling follows a 1933 proposal revised in 1988.

Neutral text with syllable sound; the character alone does not reveal a full word or message.

If someone sends it alone, ask what word it belongs to before guessing intent.

Questions people ask

2

Why does 춱 look different in different fonts?

Font design and fallback can change the drawn shape; the Unicode character remains the same.

Why did my jamo stay separate?

The IME may have left separate jamo in the text, or the active font may not shape that sequence into a syllable block. Use a Hangul composing IME.
