Hangul Syllable Cyod

8576/11172

쵿 is a Korean Hangul syllable block made from ㅊ, ㅛ and final ㄷ; it shows a spoken syllable’s sound, not what a whole word means. Hangul was devised in 1443 to write Korean with letters suited to its sounds; the 1446 Hunminjeongeum guide explained the system.

What 쵿 means

It combines three Hangul letters into one syllable block. Hangul groups its letters into blocks, one for each spoken syllable: ㅊ begins 쵿, ㅛ supplies its vowel, and final ㄷ closes it.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 쵿 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
