What 띎 means
It marks one Hangul syllable; the full word supplies the meaning.
Hangul groups an initial consonant, a vowel, and a final cluster in one block. The Hangul jamo (component letters) are ᄄ, ᅴ, and ᆱ, in that order.
Why was Hangul created?
It gave Korean a writing system designed for the language.
Before Hangul, Korean writers used idu, gugyeol, and hyangchal—methods that adapted Chinese characters to write Korean. King Sejong created Hangul, then called Hunminjeongeum, in 1443. A book with that title, published in 1446, explained its purpose and design. Hangul became Korea’s official national script in 1894 and lost that status under Japanese colonial rule in 1910.

1Why does 띎 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
