What 띌 means

On a Korean 2-set layout, press ShiftE, M, L, F.

These keys enter ㄸ, ㅡ, ㅣ, and ㄹ. A Korean input method (IME) combines ㅡㅣ into ㅢ, then assembles the syllable. On a phone or another layout, select Korean input and enter those same Hangul letters; the keys vary.

What does 띌 mean in Korean?

띌 is 띄다’s future form: “will stand out.”

띌 is the future attributive form of 띄다, describing something that will stand out or be noticeable. In 눈에 띌 거야, the phrase means “it will stand out.” 띌 is an ordinary verb form, not a separate sign. Hangul, the Korean writing system, is documented in a 1443 record; a 1446 manuscript explains its design and use. It offered an alphabet made for Korean alongside earlier methods that adapted Chinese characters—idu (이두), gugyeol (구결), and hyangchal (향찰). Hangul later appeared in letters, petitions, books, household objects, and performances.

Why are 띌 and 띨 different?

띌 comes from 띄다; 띨 comes from 띠다.

For visibility, use 띌 in a phrase like 눈에 띌 거야. 띨 is a future form of 띠다, a different verb meaning to carry, wear, or show a color, mood, or quality.

Hangul can be stored as one syllable block or an equivalent sequence of jamo. An input method may show the letters before joining them, and fonts may draw the block differently; neither change alters the syllable.

Neutral Korean grammar; by itself, 띌 sounds like a phrase cut off before it is complete.

For a color, mood, or quality, use 띠다; 띌 comes from 띄다.

Questions people ask

2

Can 띌 stand alone?

Usually no. It normally modifies a following noun or combines with a word such as 거야; by itself, it sounds like a phrase cut short.

Why do separate jamo appear instead of 띌?

That can happen while an input method is still composing the syllable, or when text is stored as decomposed jamo. Fonts can draw the block differently, but the syllable’s reading stays the same.
