띨 can be a form of 띠다, meaning to wear or carry something, or show a color or emotion. It also begins 띨띨하다, a colloquial insult for someone foolish or inept.

Hangul was created in 1443 as a learnable script for Korean. 훈민정음, the book explaining its purpose and principles, was published in 1446. Before Hangul, systems such as 이두, 구결 and 향찰 adapted Chinese characters to write Korean. The related syllable 띠 appears in 월인석보, a Korean book from 1459.
