What 띈 means
띈 is a form of the Korean verb 띄다, “to stand out.” In 눈에 띈다, something catches the eye; the expression can praise or criticize.
Hangul was created in 1443 to write Korean speech. Its explanatory book, Hunminjeongeum, appeared in 1446 and describes how Korean differs from Chinese. 띈 joins ᄄ (initial consonant), ᅴ (vowel), and ᆫ (final consonant).

1Why does 띈 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
