What 두 means

It comes before the counted word. In 두 달, 달 means “month”; if “two” stands alone, use 둘.

두 combines the Hangul consonant ㄷ and vowel ㅜ. Hangul was created in 1443 to make writing easier to learn. The 1446 book Hunminjeongeum set out the script’s principles; Hangul became Korea’s official script in 1894. These dates mark Hangul’s history, not the first use of 두.

Why does 두 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
