What 겙 means
Its role comes from Korean spelling; it has no independent meaning.
겙 joins ㄱ (initial consonant), ㅔ (vowel) and ㄾ (a two-consonant final cluster, or batchim). Its reading follows Korean spelling rules.
At King Sejong's Joseon court, Hangul was devised for Korean speech. Its creation was recorded in 1443; the Hunminjeongeum, a guide to the alphabet, appeared in 1446, offering a sound-based alternative to Chinese-character writing.
Orthographic, not conversational.
Alone, it is not a complete Korean word.
