What 꺿 means
It is one Korean syllable, not a full word.
꺿 is one Hangul block made from three jamo, the Korean letter forms used to build syllables: ᄁ ᅥ ᆪ. They mark its initial consonant, vowel, and pair of final consonants.
By itself, the block identifies a syllable; the surrounding Korean word shows its role. On a Korean 2-set input method, Shift+R, J, R, T enters the jamo in sequence and joins them into the block.
Why are Hangul syllables blocks?
The block groups the letters of one syllable.
The earliest recorded evidence of Hunminjeongeum is a 1443 entry in Sejong Sillok, a chronicle of King Sejong's reign. The 1446 Hunminjeongeum manual introduced the alphabet's design and purpose: to make Korean easier to read and write than through the Chinese-character system then used for formal learning.
The script later took the name Hangeul and spread from a planned literacy tool into religious texts, translations, letters, labels, and practical books. It arose in a society where Chinese characters had an official role, while Hangul arranged its own alphabetic letters into square syllable blocks.
Linguistic and technical; it fits Korean text samples, character discussions, and exact text data.
Alone, it can look like an unfinished fragment; the surrounding Korean word shows its role.

Don't confuse it with
1꺿 Precomposed versus decomposed Hangul 꺿: 꺿 writes the same three jamo separately. Unicode normalization can combine this sequence into one block, while some text systems may preserve or show the separate letters.
Questions people ask
1Why does 꺿 show as a box?
A missing-glyph square means the current font or text renderer cannot draw this Hangul block. A font with Korean coverage can display it; the box is a rendering limit.
