hangul syllable ggwelt

Hangul Syllable Ggwelt

1022/11172

On a Korean 2-set keyboard, switch to Korean input and type Rnpfx to produce 꿽. In Korean text, it is one Hangul syllable block; alone, it gives too little context to infer a word or reaction. The Unicode label ggwelt is generated from the block's component names, not translated from Korean.

Text symbol

What 꿽 means

Use Korean 2-set input: Rnpfx.

With Korean 2-set input active, R enters ㄲ, n p combine as ㅞ, and f x combine as final ㄾ. The capital R matters.

Those are Hangul letters called jamo: an initial consonant, a vowel and a final consonant. The input method joins them into one syllable block. Unicode also has the canonically equivalent decomposed form 꿽.

What does 꿽 mean in Korean?

It is one Hangul syllable block; the surrounding word supplies its meaning.

Hangul was developed in the Joseon kingdom as a way to write Korean with letters designed for its sounds. Its creation is recorded in 1443; the explanatory book Hunminjeongeum Haeryebon was published in 1446 and describes the system's purpose and how its letters combine.

The modern spelling standard builds on a unified proposal from 1933, revised in 1988. 꿽 combines the initial ㄲ, vowel ㅞ and final ㄾ. Unicode's label ggwelt is generated from the components' short names, not translated from a Korean word.

What if someone sends 꿽 alone?

It gives too little context for a confident decode.

In a Korean word, it is one syllable in the spelling. Standing alone, it may be a fragment or mistyped input; ask what word or keystrokes they intended.

It belongs in Korean spelling or a question about typing Hangul, not as a generic reaction.

A lone 꿽 may be a fragment; do not guess a reaction from it.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 꿽 sometimes split into jamo?

It can be the same syllable in decomposed form: 꿽 is its initial, vowel and final Jamo sequence. If software needs one precomposed block, use Unicode NFC normalization, which recomposes equivalent forms.
