What 핥 means
It is the Korean verb stem for “to lick.” Read 핥 through 핥다: the tongue passes over a surface, and that image stretches to waves, flames, light, or a gaze brushing or lingering on one. The surrounding Korean word supplies the reading.
Hangul was invented as a writing system, so 핥 is a mechanical combination, not an emblem with its own biography: ㅎ plus ㅏ plus final ㄾ assembled into one block. Alone it looks unfinished; inside 핥다 and its inflections it is ordinary spelling.
How do you type 핥?
On a standard two-set layout, press G, K, F, X. In Korean mode those keys give ㅎ, ㅏ, ㄹ, and ㅌ, and the input method fuses ㄹ plus ㅌ into final ㄾ automatically. If the letters stay split apart, you are still in English input mode.
Do not read it as English “halt.” In 핥다 the spelling stays 핥 while the standard pronunciation is [할따]: final ㄾ counts as ㄹ before the next consonant, and that consonant turns tense. The inflected 핥아 is [할타].
Why does 핥 look different across fonts?
It is a composed Hangul block, not platform artwork. The same spelling may travel as one precomposed block or as jamo that normalize into it, and whatever font you have draws the result. Changing fonts can change its shape without changing the word.
Ordinary Korean spelling inside a word; alone, 핥 looks like a fragment rather than a complete message.
Do not send bare 핥 as a universal “lick” symbol.

2Questions people ask
2Why is 핥다 pronounced [할따]?
It is [할따] because final ㄾ reduces to [ㄹ] before a consonant, while the following ㄷ becomes tense.
Why does 핥 stay separate when I type it?
Switch to Korean input. English mode emits Latin keys, while an active Korean IME assembles ㅎㅏㄹㅌ into one syllable block.
