Hangul Syllable Hyap

10667/11172

햪 is a Korean syllable, not an emoji. Alone, it gives you its sound but not the sender’s intent.

Text symbol

What 햪 means

One Korean syllable; its word gives it context.

Its decomposed jamo (Hangul letters) are 햪: initial ㅎ, vowel ㅑ, and final ㅍ. Normalization, the way software standardizes text, can store these letters separately or recombine them as 햪.

Hangul made Korean easier to write than Chinese characters or Korean adaptations of them. Its earliest record is dated 1443; the 1446 guide Hunminjeongeum explains its design. It spread into daily writing, became Korea’s official system in 1894, and took on national meaning as scholars preserved it under Japanese suppression after 1910.

Why is 햪 a box on my screen?

fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
