hangul syllable jeols

Hangul syllable Jeols

7181/11172

젌 is a Hangul syllable block, not a word with a fixed meaning by itself. Its parts are ㅈ ㅓ ㄽ; the Korean word around it supplies the meaning. At a word end, only ㄹ (an l-like sound) is heard; before a vowel-starting syllable, ㅅ can link forward.

What 젌 means

젌 is a Hangul syllable block; alone, it has no fixed meaning.

The block joins an initial consonant, vowel, and compound final consonant. “Jeols” labels those parts; it is not a Korean dictionary word. The surrounding Korean word supplies the meaning.

Hangul was created to write Korean under King Sejong of the Joseon dynasty. A creation record dates to 1443; the 1446 Hunminjeongeum, an explanatory book, describes the letters' sounds and how a syllable combines an initial consonant, vowel, and ending. It gave Korean speakers a way to write their language, whose speech differed from Chinese writing. Modern Korean spelling follows a 1933 draft, partly revised in 1988.

How is 젌 pronounced?

Alone, ㄽ ends like ㄹ; before a vowel, ㅅ can carry over.

At a word end, ㄽ is usually pronounced with an l-like ending, so its ㅅ is not heard separately. Before a vowel-starting syllable, the cluster can split: ㄹ closes this syllable while ㅅ links to the next and becomes the tighter Korean ㅆ sound.

A 2009 study compares Hunminjeongeum with the Phags-pa script, created in 1269, and discusses shared ways of classifying speech sounds. It is a scholarly comparison, not proof that Hangul was simply copied from Phags-pa.

Neutral and technical; alone, 젌 reads as a syllable fragment or test string, not a reaction.

“Jeols” names the syllable's parts; it is not a Korean word meaning.

Is 젌 an emoji?

No. 젌 is a Hangul text character, drawn by a font as a syllable block rather than as emoji artwork.

Why does 젌 appear as a box?

The active font or text renderer may lack this Hangul block. Try a Korean-capable font or renderer; the underlying text remains 젌.
