What 줛 means
A Korean input method assembles its parts in order. On the standard Korean 2-set keyboard, type the jamo (letters used to build Hangul syllables) ㅈ, ㅜ, ㅓ, ㄱ, ㅅ; the corresponding QWERTY keys are w, n, j, r, t. The input method combines ㅜ ㅓ into ㅝ and ㄱ ㅅ into final ㄳ.
What is 줛 made of?
It is one Korean syllable block: ㅈ ㅝ ㄳ. The first and last parts are consonant jamo, while ㅝ is a combined vowel. By itself, 줛 is not a complete Korean word and has no fixed translation; the surrounding word or sentence supplies its meaning.
Hangul’s design was completed in 1443, and its explanatory book, Hunminjeongeum, appeared in 1446. The writing system aimed to represent Korean accurately and to be easier to learn than Chinese-character writing. Hangul has also been used alongside Hanja, the Chinese characters used in Korean texts.
Some scholars propose that Hangul’s design drew on Phags-pa, a writing system used during the Mongol Empire. That debated connection concerns the alphabet’s origin, not this individual syllable.
Why does 줛 look different?
The same syllable can appear as one block or as separated jamo. Unicode allows the syllable to be stored as one encoded block or as an equivalent sequence of jamo. Korean text shaping arranges the parts into a square syllable cell. If they appear separated, the display system has not shaped them together; it is a rendering difference, not a different syllable.
Neutral: it identifies a piece of Korean writing and carries no mood by itself.
Alone in a message, it gives no reliable cue about the sender’s tone.

Questions people ask
1Why does 줛 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
