What 카 means
Use Korean input and press z, then k, on Dubeolsik. The standard two-set Korean keyboard maps those keys to ㅋ and ㅏ. A Korean input method (IME) combines the consonant and vowel into 카 as you type.
What does 카 mean?
카 is the Korean syllable ka; its word meaning depends on context. In the loanword phrase 카 레이싱 (“car racing”), it contributes “car.” In 카드 (“card”), it is only the opening syllable, so read the whole word rather than assigning “car” to 카 alone.
카 is built from Hangul letters
Hangul’s creation is dated to 1443; Hunminjeongeum, the book that explained the writing system, appeared in 1446. The alphabet was designed to make Korean speech easier to write than with Chinese characters. In 카, ㅋ marks an aspirated k sound—a k with a puff of air—and ㅏ supplies the vowel. The shape of ㅋ comes from ㄱ with an added stroke to mark that puff.

2Questions people ask
1Why can text that looks like 카 compare differently?
The underlying character sequences can differ. Hangul can be stored as one precomposed syllable or as separate jamo letters. Canonically equivalent forms can look alike; Unicode normalization puts them into a common form for comparison, while raw text can differ before normalization.
