What 컱 means
By itself, 컱 has no fixed word meaning.
A Hangul syllable block is one written syllable. 컱 combines the initial consonant ㅋ, vowel ㅓ and double final cluster ㄾ; “keolt” is a spelling guide to those parts, not a word to translate.
The history belongs to Hangul as a whole: it was created in 1443 and explained in 1446 in Hunminjeongeum, a book introducing the script. Before Hangul, Korean writers adapted Chinese characters to write Korean in systems such as Idu, Gugyeol and Hyangchal. Hangul aimed to make reading and writing more accessible; later texts used it for Buddhist and Confucian teachings, laws and everyday knowledge.
Why does ㄾ change its sound?
What follows in the Korean word decides how ㄾ is pronounced.
ㄾ is a double final cluster, called 겹받침 in Korean. At a word end or before a consonant, it is pronounced as ㄹ: 핥는 is pronounced 할른. Before an ending that begins with a vowel, ㄹ stays at the end of one syllable and ㅌ starts the next, as in 핥아 할타. Read the whole word to know which form applies.
Neutral as a character; any word meaning comes from the Korean word it belongs to.
Sent alone, 컱 does not tell you which word or message was meant.
