What 컟 means
It marks one syllable; the word supplies its meaning.
Hangul, Korea's alphabet, forms syllable blocks: 컟 combines initial ㅋ, vowel ㅒ, and final ㅊ (ㅋㅒㅊ); Unicode breaks it into ᄏ ᅤ ᆾ.
Why was Hangul created, and how did its use change?
It gave Korean a script designed to be easier to learn.
Before Hangul, Korean writing relied largely on Chinese characters. King Sejong created it in 1443; the 1446 book Hunminjeongeum explained its purpose and principles. Early Hangul appeared in Buddhist texts, then Confucian works, practical guides, and personal letters. It became official in 1894, then lost that status under Japanese rule in 1910.
