Hangul Syllable Mub

3910/11172

뭅 is the Hangul syllable “mub,” not an emoji — it only means something inside Korean words. Alone it is just the sound built from ㅁ ㅜ ㅂ. With a Korean keyboard you type those three keys and they snap into one block.

What 뭅 means

Alone, 뭅 is just a sound block, not an emoji. It packs initial ㅁ, vowel ㅜ, and final ㅂ into one square Hangul syllable, read “mub.” The Korean word around it supplies the meaning; by itself it sends no reaction, object, or mood.

Hangul itself is the origin story here. Its announcement is recorded in 1443, and the 1446 Hunminjeongeum explains the system: stack an initial, a medial, and an optional final into one syllable block. It was invented to fit Korean speech and give people an alternative to writing only in Chinese characters.

Older names for the script included jeongeum, eonmun, gukmun, and gukseo; “Hangeul” spread after 1928. Those label the writing system, not this syllable. A Phags-pa influence on Hangul’s design is a scholarly proposal; as of 2026, it is not a settled direct origin for this block.

How do I type 뭅?

Type ㅁ, then ㅜ, then ㅂ. On a 2-set Korean IME those keys are A, N, and Q, and the IME fuses the three Jamo into 뭅 as you type.

Unicode treats precomposed 뭅 and the conjoining Jamo sequence as the same character. Your font decides the exact shapes and spacing, so the block can look chunkier or slimmer across typefaces. If you see loose Jamo instead of one block, the IME or app did not compose it; copy it from the palette above.

Neutral inside Korean text; strange alone because it carries no emoji or chat meaning.

Do not send it alone expecting an emoji reaction.

3

Is 뭅 an emoji?

No. It is a Korean text character drawn by your font, with no emoji presentation or vendor artwork.

Why does 뭅 look different in another font?

It is the same syllable. Fonts reshape and respace ㅁ, ㅜ, and ㅂ inside the square block.

Is 뭅 the same as 뭡?

No. 뭅 uses vowel ㅜ, while 뭡 uses ㅝ; they are different syllables.
