What 넝 means
It is a Korean syllable, not a standalone word.
Read the whole word: 넝쿨 is standard for a vine, alongside 덩굴, and 넝마 covers rags or worn-out clothes.
넝 has no separate pictogram history. Hangul itself was explained in Hunminjeongeum (1446) as stacked syllable blocks for writing Korean sounds; the cliff trail runs through 넝떠러지, recorded in the 1880 한불자전, while a 2019 place-name study still found 넝 in some dictionaries and place names but called it largely obsolete.
Neutral inside Korean words; marked and regional when used alone.
Do not send 넝 alone expecting “cliff.”
