What 팽 means

A full Korean word gives it a clear sense.

Hangul, Korea’s writing system, was designed in the 15th century to group sound letters into syllable blocks; 팽 joins ㅍ, ㅐ, and ㅇ. A Japanese record dated 720 says the spinning top came from Korea to Japan. Korean writings around 1690 and in the 18th century record the top as 핑이, an older form of 팽이. Korean word histories link 팽개치다 to 팡개, a bird-scaring tool.

Neutral as a syllable.

Sent alone, 팽 gives little context.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 팽 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
