Hangul Syllable Poh

10248/11172

퐇 is a Hangul syllable block made from ㅍ, ㅗ, and ㅎ; by itself, it has no fixed Korean word meaning. In a longer Korean string, those letters form one syllable. To type it, switch to Korean input and enter the three letters in order.

What 퐇 means

It is a Hangul syllable block, not a standalone Korean word. It combines three jamo, Korean letters arranged into a syllable block: ㅍ is the initial consonant, ㅗ the vowel, and ㅎ the final consonant.

Hangul was created under King Sejong's court to represent Korean speech directly, rather than relying on Chinese characters to write Korean. The earliest record of Hunminjeongeum, the script's introduction, appears in Sejong Sillok, a royal chronicle, in 1443; an explanatory book of that name was published in 1446. Early translated Buddhist books show Hangul in religious print as well as in court-backed writing.

Historical names for the script included jeongeum, eonmun, banjeol, gukmun, and gukseo. The name Hangeul appears in records from the 1910s and was widely used by 1928. Hanja, the Chinese-character writing system used in Korea before Hangul, is part of the script's historical setting.

how to type 퐇

Use Korean input and enter ㅍ, ㅗ, ㅎ in that order. A Korean input method editor (IME), the software that assembles typed Korean letters, turns them into one block.

As of 2026-09-13, the standard 2-set QWERTY layout maps those letters to V, H, and G, respectively. Other Korean layouts can put the same letters on different keys.

Unicode treats the precomposed block and its equivalent sequence of conjoining jamo as canonically equivalent. Fonts can change the parts' placement, proportions, or shape without changing 퐇. If an app displays separate jamo, the input or text normalization has left the sequence uncomposed.

is 퐇 an emoji

No. It is a Hangul text character, not an emoji.

is 퐇 a word

No. As of 2026-09-13, the National Institute of Korean Language's Basic Korean Dictionary returned no vocabulary entry for 퐇. In a Korean word, surrounding syllables provide the wider meaning.

why does 퐇 look different in different fonts

It can. Hangul fonts vary in how they place and proportion the letters inside a syllable block. That changes the drawing, not the character.
