What 퐿 means
It spells one Korean syllable; its word supplies the meaning.
Hangul letters, called jamo, assemble into a block: ㅍ begins this one, ㅙ is its vowel, and ㅎ closes it. The block gives the syllable's sound; the Korean word supplies any translation.
On a Korean 2-set (Dubeolsik) keyboard, v h o g enters ㅍ ㅗ ㅐ ㅎ; the input method combines ㅗ and ㅐ into ㅙ.
Where did Hangul come from?
Hangul was designed to make writing Korean more accessible.
The Sejong annals, a royal chronicle, record Hangul's creation in 1443; the explanatory book Hunminjeongeum appeared in 1446.
Hangul made Korean easier to write than the Chinese-character tradition allowed. Its use widened from letters and Buddhist texts to novels and official documents; it appeared in official documents by the Kabo Reform of 1894.
