What 렐 means
It is one syllable; the whole word or name sets its meaning. Read it as part of the Korean expression around it.
King Sejong devised Hangul in Joseon so people could write Korean with its own alphabet. First called Hunminjeongeum (“Correct Sounds for Instructing the People”), the script was created in 1443; an explanatory book of the same name appeared in 1446. Hangul spread in everyday writing while official documents remained mostly in Chinese characters until 1894.
렐's jamo (Hangul letters) are ᄅ, ᅦ and ᆯ: the initial consonant, vowel and final consonant. Unicode normalization can display them separately instead of as one syllable block.
