What 렬 means
It has no fixed meaning alone; the surrounding word supplies it. It can represent roots for order, fierceness, splitting, or inferiority. 병렬 is “parallel”; 열렬 is “ardent.” A font can draw the block differently without creating a different character.
Hangul emerged for Korean in the fifteenth century: the project is recorded in 1443 and the explanatory book was completed in 1446. It was made to provide an easier Korean writing system than Chinese characters, using consonant and vowel letters packed into syllable blocks. That design links 렬 to 열: after a vowel or ㄴ final, modern South Korean spelling uses 열 for certain roots.
Neutral in writing; the word around it supplies the tone.
Alone, it is an unfinished word fragment, not a reaction.
