What 르 means
Read the whole word: 르 has no fixed meaning alone. 다르다 means “to differ,” while 부르다 means “to call” or “sing.”
Hangul, the Korean alphabet, was designed to write Korean with its own system instead of relying only on Chinese characters. Its creation is recorded in 1443; the explanatory book Hunminjeongeum appeared in 1446.
In the 르 irregular pattern, final 르 in some Korean verbs becomes ㄹㄹ before -아 or -어: 다르다 becomes 달라, and 부르다 becomes 불러. This applies to those verbs, not every word with 르.

Questions people ask
1Why does 르 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
